Corruption

“We may have democracy, or we may have wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can’t have both.” - Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis (1856-1941)

When our Founding Fathers convened to write the U.S. Constitution, the young nation was in rough shape. There were constant threats from foreign powers such as the British and French, taxation problems, trade issues, and disagreements between the states.

Yet there was one problem which they unanimously considered the most dangerous of all: corruption from within.

All the checks and balances in the world are meaningless when those holding public office use their position to enrich themselves. James Madison, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and others argued for months about the danger corruption posed to the new Republic, and worried about how the "spreading rot" of favors for wealth would mean a premature end to our country.

200 years later, naked corruption is not only tolerated, it is openly celebrated. Public office holders in Congress and the White House use the power of government to help themselves to fistfuls of cash straight from the U.S. Treasury. They accept millions from wealthy special interests, then funnel trillions of your tax dollars to these same interests, who then reward the politicians with more money, creating an endless cycle. They strip us of 100+ years of federal protections, in the name of "growth," even though we all now know that "trickle-down" economics is a total sham.

And then, to top it all off, they get their wealthy lackeys in the Supreme Court to rule on cases such as Citizens United, which make sure that only the super-wealthy will ever hold or even run for political office.

Thanks to decades of this open corruption at the highest levels, concerned citizens must beg and plead with multi-millionaires for the funds necessary to run a basic campaign. Because of this, most of the best people, disgusted by pay-for-play politics, stay out of leadership positions in government; and the most powerful positions go to the most openly corrupt individuals.

It's time to get big money out of politics. It's time to elect representatives that will not abuse their authority for material gain.

It's no secret that Pete Sessions is firmly in the pocket of the special interests; as a specific example, he has accepted $1.2 million from the health insurance and big pharma lobbyists in just the last six years. In exchange, he has supported their terrible bills that will raise premiums another 25-45% percent next year and rip 23 million Americans from their healthcare... while funneling the "savings" to his ultra-rich donors.

It's time to elect someone with actual values, not just a slavish devotion to corporate profiteering.

Great news: that's me! I want YOU to know that I will not accept suitcases full of cash in exchange for my vote in Congress. I want YOU to rest assured that I have YOUR best interests, YOUR well-being, as my ultimate concern. And I want YOU to know that we CAN get this country back to the model that our Founding Fathers envisioned... a Republic that leads the rest of the world by example, rather than a cesspool of self-dealing and naked corruption.

As much as I want to, I can't do this for free. I'm going to need YOUR help in this fight! Just know that your contribution to my campaign will go directly towards rooting out and fighting corruption whereever it hides. Please help me restore our Republic's original vision and purpose with a contribution today!
